Take a walk in the park tomorrow

Lace up your sneakers and pack a picnic lunch for work tomorrow.
Heck, pack the dog too!
Everyone – including the pooch – will love National Take A Walk in Park Day. The city is encouraging folks to celebrate appropriately.
The Suffolk Department of Parks and Recreation, along with the Suffolk Partnership for a Healthy Community, is inviting folks to come out to Lake Meade Park, 201 Holly Lawn Parkway, for a walk from noon to 2 p.m.
Other sponsors are Suffolk on the Move and the Obici Healthcare Foundation.
People are welcome to stick to the trails along the scenic waterway. But a guide will be on hand to take the bolder, more adventuresome walkers on nature hikes that will get them a little closer to the water.
The Suffolk Partnership is having a drawing for prizes, including a Fitbit and gift cards, for anyone who registers by noon and is present for the drawing at 1 p.m.
This national holiday is an excellent way to get Suffolk — and me, hopefully — moving. This sounds like a great incentive to get back on the wagon after that long-since-broken New Year’s resolution to get outdoors and walk daily.
I put it off because of cold weather. Or I had a cold. Or whatever other excuse I could come up with.
My new goal is to make it out to Lake Meade Park on Wednesday, even if it’s just for a few minutes.
It’s a good way to celebrate spring, and there have been plenty of studies touting the health benefits of a leisurely stroll — or better yet, a healthy trot — around the track.
In addition to the obvious physical cardio benefits, walking tends to clean the cobwebs from the soul.
Hope to see you on Wednesday.
