Corporate, individual help important for Tour de Cure

The American Diabetes Association’s annual Tour de Cure is approaching quickly, but there’s still time for you to get involved in the big fundraising event before the day slips by like the road beneath the spinning wheels of hundreds of bicycles.
And once again this year, there’s a great opportunity for participation by those who are more comfortable on four wheels than on two.
Barton (formerly Beach) Ford on North Main Street has once again agreed to offer a $20 contribution to the diabetes association for every test drive taken on April 30, the day of the cycling event, which will be held at King’s Fork High School.
Want to get a taste of the road behind an F-150? That’s $20 for Tour de Cure. How about a spin in a Mustang? It’s free for you and $20 to the Tour.
Chances are, you won’t be able to enjoy a 100-mile drive in one of the Ford vehicles, though you can cycle 100, 65, 25 or 10 miles on marked bicycle routes if you pay the $30 registration fee and raise at least $200 in donations.
Either way, you’ll be helping to advance the cause of diabetes education and awareness. The American Diabetes Association is dedicated to preventing and curing diabetes and improving the lives of those affected by the disease.
Tour de Cure is its major fundraiser each year, and the Hampton Roads version of the event, which has been held in Suffolk for the past few years, attracts about 1,000 riders and other participants each time it’s held. Corporate sponsors like Barton Ford help to increase the total amount of money raised, as well as providing extra benefits to help attract riders.
The corporate help is a big deal, as the Tour has a goal this year of $450,000. So far, about $105,000 has been raised.
