A 58-year-old woman was injured Monday when her car ran into an apartment building at the Autumn Ridge Apartments in the 100 block of Nancy Square.

The woman lost control of her vehicle at about 2 p.m., striking a parked car and then the apartment building, according to a press release from Suffolk spokesman Timothy Kelley.

The woman suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to Sentara Obici Hospital. A passenger in her vehicle was uninjured.

Building officials from the city’s Planning and Community Development Department responded to the scene and determined that one of the apartments that was hit was no longer suitable for habitation because of the damage it had sustained. That unit’s residents were relocated. A second apartment received only exterior damage.

The driver, Shirley Wiggins of Suffolk, was charged with reckless driving, according to Kelley.
