The Suffolk Christian Academy softball team experienced the opposite end of the blowout in its second game of the season.
The Lady Knights opened the season with a good win, a 23-3 victory over host Alliance Christian Academy on March 11.
“Unfortunately, it was a little bit too good,” SCA coach Robert Lester said, noting that it may have caused confidence and expectation levels throughout the team to be a little bit higher than what they should have been after a single game.
Against host Norfolk Christian School on Thursday, the Lady Knights lost 25-4.
“We had an injury that kind of set us back,” Lester said, and added that overall he thought his team was just looking at a different level of competition in the first game.
It was freshman Penelope Franklin, one of Suffolk Christian’s top players, who suffered an injury, but Lester hopes to have her back soon.
Despite the loss, the Lady Knights had some offensive standouts, including freshman Regan Lynn, who was 2-for-2, with a home run, junior Kaleigh McLeod, who was 2-for-2, with one run scored, and eighth-grader Heather Pearson, who was 2-for-3, with a run scored.
As for the loss, Lester said he will “try and look for a positive out of it and try to have them a little emotionally prepared for the next game.”
SCA (1-1) hosts Norfolk Collegiate School on Thursday.
