Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

• Alexis Wethington, junior for King’s Fork High School basketball: She was declared the game MVP by her coach after she provided a tremendous defensive spark and scored some timely points to help propel the Lady Bulldogs to a 55-51 win in their first state-level game in school history on Friday. She ended up with five steals.
• Lindsay Knierbein, junior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy basketball: She made a significant impact for her team throughout the state tournament this past week, particularly on defense and on the boards. She used scrappy play to disrupt the rhythm of opponents in the quarterfinals, semifinals and final.
