Additional security was on site at Lakeland High School Wednesday as a precautionary measure after concerns about a possible conflict between two students, officials said.
City spokeswoman Diana Klink said the Suffolk Police Department began investigating an alleged threat towards a student at the school on Tuesday evening.
“Officers provided extra security today at the school as a precautionary measure,” she said. “There were no incidents and the school was not placed on lockdown at any point today.”
Suffolk Public Schools spokeswoman Bethanne Bradshaw said the following message from Principal Douglas Wagoner was shared on the school’s public-address system and sent to parents starting around 11 a.m.: “This morning at Lakeland, word was received that there was a possible conflict between two students. Because the situation had the potential to present additional concerns, it was addressed by providing extra security in cooperation with the Suffolk Police Department to assure the safety of everyone. There has been no threat made to Lakeland High School.”
