Warriors coach Ed Young said he has told Williams, “You can shoot with the best of them.”

He noted that participation in this competition could help open the eyes of college recruiters to Williams’ talent.

Should Williams make it to Houston, Young said, “I don’t think he’d be fazed by that. He knows what his strength is,” adding that he is shooting an excellent 44 percent from three-point range this season.

To have the opportunity to get to Houston, he must make it through the multi-round American Family Insurance “#DreamFearlessly Fan Vote.”

The press release from American Family Insurance and Intersport described the fan vote as “a four-week digital media contest that will match up 16 of the top high school dunkers, men’s 3-point shooters and women’s 3-point shooters in the nation in a bracket-style competition to determine the final participant” on April 3.

Fans can vote by visiting amfam.com/dreamfearlesslyfanvote and using an interactive bracket. The athlete with the most votes in each matchup will move on to the next round, which will be the quarterfinals.

In the first round, Williams is pitted against senior guard Michael Ranson of Pueblo Central High School in Colorado. As of this writing, Ranson has 51.57 percent of the votes, while Williams is trailing with 48.43 percent.

Fans can vote once a day via Facebook, Twitter or email account, and first-round voting concludes on Feb. 17 at 12:59 p.m.
