LaVerne Saunders Flythe

LaVerne Saunders Flythe, 63, of Suffolk, passed away on Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was the daughter of Helen Skinner and the late Walter Perry Sr. She was preceded in death by her son, Dameyon P. Flythe.

She was a member of Faith Temple Ministries where she served as an elder, Sunday school teacher, women’s president and choir member. She was a lifetime member of the Pilot Club International, 10-year volunteer at the Obici Hospital Oncology Ward and worked on the Suffolk Clean Committee. She founded The Friends Christian Club Inc., served as president of the Parents of Murdered Children, Suffolk Chapter and was a national prison ministry ambassador, advocating for soon to be released inmates.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 45 years, William M. Flythe Sr.; three sons, William M. Flythe Jr., Darrell O. Flythe, Wilvern M. Flythe; two daughters, Lorraine Davis and Angela Flythe; five sisters, Lorraine S. Hoskie, Linda S. Wright (Al), Gloria S. Kump (Doug), Esther Perry and Wanda Johnson; five brothers, Larry Skinner (Avon), Lamont Graves, Walter Perry Jr., Vernon Perry and Quinton Perry (Mildred); stepmother, Nellie Perry; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at New Mt. Joy Food for Living Ministries. She will be laid to rest at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
