The first of three defendants charged in the killing of a Suffolk businessman last year has been sentenced.
Naomi Nichelle Lambert, 23, will serve an active sentence of 22 years for the crime. She will have an additional 46 years hanging over her head when she gets out.
Prosecutors have said Lambert set up the robbery of Donald Carter, 82, at his furniture store on East Washington Street. He was gunned down about 1:12 a.m. on Sept. 22, 2014.
Lambert pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, attempted robbery and two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony.
She received active sentences of 12 years for murder; two years for conspiracy to commit robbery; and eight years total for use of a firearm in commission of a felony. The entire sentence for attempted robbery was suspended.
Leon Jerome Hayes, 34, and Katron Shawndell Walker, 34, also are charged in the shooting. Walker is set for a jury trial expected to begin Monday and last all week. A date for Hayes’ trial has not yet been scheduled.
