A tractor-trailer overturned and spilled its load of lumber on the eastbound on-ramp of the Southwest Bypass Thursday morning.

The crash happened about 11:30 a.m., according to a city press release. Suffolk Fire & Rescue cut the windshield from the vehicle in order to extricate the adult male driver, who was taken by ground ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

The ramp is anticipated to remain closed until about 7 p.m., as the lumber must be removed from the roadway.
