The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy girls’ tennis team dealt visiting Walsingham Academy a 9-0 loss on Thursday.
“I felt really good about it,” Lady Saints coach Sheryl Raulston said of NSA’s performance. “It was our first conference match.”
She was particularly excited to see her team hold the Lady Trojans winless on the day despite it still being without its No. 3 and No. 4 players due to injury.
No individual or doubles team for Nansemond-Suffolk gave up more than four sets.
Following are the singles results:
- No. 1 Elvie Sellers (NSA) def. Emily Bowerman (WA) 6-1, 6-3
- No. 2 Ria Khandpur (NSA) def. Emily Daigneault (WA) 6-0, 6-0
- No. 3 Anuja Shah (NSA) def. Mairin Shea (WA) 6-3, 6-1
- No. 4 Chloe Watts (NSA) def. Gwen Agor (WA) 6-0, 6-1
- No. 5 Mercer Hartman (NSA) def. Olivia Clark (WA) 6-1, 6-1
- No. 6 Eleanor Burcham (NSA) def. Faith Sullivan (WA) 6-3, 6-1
Following are the doubles results:
- No. 1 Sellers/Khandpur (NSA) def. Bowerman/Shea (WA) 8-4
- No. 2 Shah/Watts (NSA) def. Daigneault/Agor (WA) 8-1
- No. 3 Burcham/Hogg (NSA) def. Sullivan/Clark (WA) 8-0
After starting off with an especially difficult schedule that led to some early losses, the Lady Saints have climbed back to .500 overall. They are looking to get back either one or both of their injured players next week, which Raulston noted is perfect timing as NSA dives into its conference schedule.
“I think coming up here we should be much better off,” she said.
Nansemond-Suffolk (3-3, 1-0) faces Norfolk Collegiate School on Monday at Old Dominion University.
