The New York Liberty had no time to rest after its Eastern Conference Semifinal series-clinching win on Tuesday, but it was no problem.
The Liberty kept cool against the Indiana Fever in Wednesday evening’s Eastern Conference Finals opener, and with some help from former King’s Fork High School star Sugar Rodgers, New York recorded an 84-67 home win.
Liberty center Kiah Stokes came off the bench to lead all scorers with 21 points. Also powering New York was center Tina Charles, who had 18 points, nine assists, seven rebounds and two blocks, guard Epiphanny Prince, who had 17 points, and guard Sugar Rodgers, who had 14 points off the bench.
In 23 minutes of play, Rodgers hit four three-pointers and also registered five assists, three rebounds and one steal.
This was the third straight playoff game in which Rodgers scored in double figures, and it was also New York’s third straight playoff win.
The Liberty hit the road and face the Fever in Game Two of the Eastern Conference Finals on Sunday at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The game is set to be broadcast on ESPN with a 1 p.m. tip-off.
