Bond was denied for a man charged with murder in Suffolk Circuit Court on Wednesday.
Nathaniel C. McCoy Jr., 22, of Portsmouth, is charged with the murder of Donta L. Williams, 22. Williams was last seen by his family Jan. 20 and was found in a lake in the 100 block of Lakeview Parkway on March 9.
McCoy was arrested in Michigan on March 21. Two other men, Kyle Lamar Purvis, 21, of Portsmouth, and Tremayne L. Johnson, 25, of Suffolk, also are charged. The grand jury handed down indictments against all three in June.
According to court documents and testimony, all three told investigators in separate interviews they attacked Williams on the bridge crossing the lake. They allegedly struck him multiple times with a hammer and choked him before pushing his body into the water.
A five-day jury trial for all three defendants is scheduled to begin Dec. 14. Each is charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and shoot or stab in the commission of a felony.
