Robert Taffe Mitchell, born June 16, 1952, to Willie Morris Mitchell and Mary Magdalene Mitchell in New York, N.Y. Robert passed away at the age of 63 in Mission Hills, Calif., on June 28, 2015. He was known as Bobby, Mitch, The Sheik and McChill and attended PS107, James Kieran 123, DeWitt Clinton High School and Harlem Prep, all in New York City. He learned life experience in the Soundview Projects in Bronx, N.Y. Robert Mitchell obtained an associate degree in mechanics and attended Kennesaw State in Georgia. Robert Mitchell, was an engineman chief petty officer for the U.S. Navy and served 21 years from November 1974 to November 1995. He was awarded a Purple Heart.

Bobby is survived by his son, Bobby Jr., daughter, Nia Jarrett, and son-in-law, Damien Jarrett; his grandchildren, Edrice Mitchell, Adara Webb, Jason Webb, Marcus Jarrett, and a great-granddaughter, Mona Jarrett. Bobby leaves a stepmom, Shirley Mitchell, aunt, Marion Matthews, of Suffolk, aunt, Linda, brothers, Willie Mitchell, Gene Mitchell, Jerry Mitchell, Gaylord Mitchell and Sidney Mitchell; stepbrother, Otto Wilson, and his only sister, Natasha Mitchell Williams, from New York and Kansas. Robert Mitchell leaves 20 nephews and 9 nieces to cherish his memory, as well as cousins like Gregory Smith, Curtis Smith, of Suffolk, Pete Parham, of Suffolk, other Scott-Mitchell relatives, and friends like Gloria Taylor in Los Angeles, Jill Peebler from Montana, Lawrence Payne of Oroville, Calif., and Tony Rome, of New York.

Robert Taffe Mitchell will be buried with military honors at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 28, 2015, at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk.
