Ruth Eley Twine

Ruth Eley Twine, 79, of 118 Bute St., Suffolk, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015, at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was a native of Nansemond County and the daughter of the late Sclay Eley and Lottie Eley Wilkins.

She was a 1956 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and also attended Norfolk State College (now University). Ruth retired from Pioneer Southern after 35 years. She was a member of Missouri Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Missionary Board, Pastor’s Aide Ministry, Senior Usher Board and a former Senior Choir member.

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Hope Davidson (Kevin), of Suffolk; three sons, Michael Eley (Wanda), of Crewe, Hilbert Twine (Dawn Beverly), of Newport News, and Christopher Twine, of Suffolk; one sister, Janice Ruffin, of Suffolk; one brother, James Eley (Betty), of Portsmouth; six grandchildren, Joshua Richardson, Dennis Richardson Jr., Jasmine Richardson, Tayvon Twine, Tamerah Twine and Chaquan Beverly; adopted grandson, Dominique Bell; special friends, Lecey Hall and Beatrice Ash; other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, 2015, at Saint Paul Baptist Church officiated by Bishop C.V. Russell III and Pastor Jaimi Russell. Interment will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, 2015 at the funeral home. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
