A Windsor man died in a crash in Carrollton on Thursday afternoon.

The victim has been identified as Richard Davis Wilkins, 50, of the 8000 block of Peanut Drive.

The single-vehicle accident took place at 1:52 p.m. in the 15000 block of Cedar Grove Road in the Carrollton area of Isle of Wight, according to Virginia State Police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya.

The 2015 Freightliner had driven off the roadway and struck a tree, causing minimal damage, Anaya said. The driver was found to be unresponsive and pronounced deceased at the scene by the rescue squad.

State Police continue to investigate the accident, Anaya said.
