Clifton H. Winborne

Clifton H. Winborne, of Suffolk, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Sentara Obici Hospital.
He was born May 5, 1930, to the late John Henry and Eartha Savage Winborne in Suffolk.
Clifton graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, of Suffolk, then enlisted in the Army and later attended Norfolk State College. He co-owned and built the family business, Yates & Winborne (Y&W) Self Service Market, which included an adjacent Chinese/American restaurant as well as a billiards room.
He was married to Sarah Chambliss Winborne, of Suffolk, who preceded him in death in January 2014. He is survived by his son, Ronald C. Winborne (Glenda), of South Port, N.C.; two daughters, Carolyn W. James (Andrew), of Suffolk, and Brenda W. Anderson (Richard), of San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, especially the Milteer family, of Suffolk, and many, many friends.
Mr. Winborne will be on view from noon to 7 p.m., and a wake service will take place at 7 p.m., on Friday, May 29, 2015, at the funeral home. A celebration of life service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2015, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 2623 E. Washington St., Suffolk, and he will be laid to rest at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
