Suffolk woman earns Links recognition

Members of the Suffolk Chapter of The Links Inc. recently attended the 43rd Eastern Area Conference at the Foxwood Hotel and Casino in Connecticut.
Priscilla Benn, a member of the chapter, was recognized for being a 25-year member in The Links.
“Mrs. Benn is dedicated to the principles of friendship and service,” said Dr. MeChelle S. Blunt, Suffolk chapter president. “She gives numerous hours working for the good of The Links Inc. and takes tremendous pride in all she does especially with the students at Booker T. Washington Elementary School, where she is known as the ‘Book Lady.’”
The Links Inc. is an international, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1946. The membership consists of nearly 14,000 professional women of color in 280 chapters located in 41 states, the District of Columbia and the Bahamas. It is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of blacks and other persons of African ancestry.
The programming of The Links Inc. has five facets, including services to youth, the arts, national trends and services, international trends and services, and health and human services.
The programs are implemented through strategies such as public information and education, economic development and public policy campaigns.
