Player of the Week nominations

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  • Stasha Waterfield, junior for Lakeland High School softball: She has continued to be a remarkable offensive force for the Lady Cavaliers. In Tuesday’s 12-2 road win over Denbigh High School, she went 4-for-5 including a solo home run. In Monday’s 15-4 road win against Phoebus High School, she went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of runs batted in.
  • Robert Fitzwater, senior for Nansemond River High School baseball: He helped power the Warriors to a 3-0 week, both offensively and defensively. In Friday’s 7-0 home win over Lakeland High School, he improved to 5-1 on the mound, throwing five shutout innings with eight strikeouts and allowing only one hit, while going 3-for-3 at the plate. Across Monday and Tuesday, he had four hits and two RBIs.
  • Kay’Lee Justice, junior for King’s Fork High School softball: She contributed notably to the Lady Bulldogs’ 3-0 week. In Thursday’s 10-0 road win against Phoebus High School, she went 3-for-3 and scored two runs. In Tuesday’s 11-0 home win against Heritage High School, she combined with senior Sydney Wash to pitch a no-hitter.
