A North Suffolk hotel was evacuated in the early morning hours Friday when a fire started in the kitchen, according to a city press release.
An employee of the Hilton Garden Inn in the 5900 block of Harbour View Boulevard called 911 about 2 a.m. to report a fire in the kitchen that was causing smoke to fill the guest lobby, according to the release. Hotel staff evacuated the 135 guests from the building before firefighters arrived, but firefighters and police officers searched the building to confirm everyone was out.
The sprinkler system in the kitchen had extinguished the flames, and there was no structural damage. Firefighters ventilated the first floor, the guests were permitted to return after the building had been ventilated and the fire alarms were reset.
The fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.
