The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy softball team traveled to face Brunswick Academy in Lawrenceville on Wednesday and returned with a 4-2 victory to start the 2015 season off with a trio of wins.
The Lady Saints trailed 2-1 during the top of the seventh inning on Wednesday when they mounted a comeback.
Freshman Emerson Puzey singled to left field, and senior Bridget Murphy followed it up with a bunt, reaching first base safely. Then, sophomore Delaney Taylor hit a two-RBI triple to give her team a 3-2 lead.
The Lady Viking responded with a pitching change, but Taylor was later able to add to the lead when she reached home on a passed ball.
NSA successfully held Brunswick in the bottom of the inning for the victory.
Lady Saints junior pitcher Katie Peelen improved to 2-0 on the mound.
The game was by far the closest Nansemond-Suffolk has been a part of so far this season. It opened the year on March 12 with a 14-3 win at Portsmouth Christian School and followed it up on Tuesday with a 22-1 blowout victory at Norfolk Collegiate School.
NSA (3-0) will host Kenston Forest School on Friday, weather permitting.
