With frozen rain and sleet predicted, the city’s public schools are planning to operate on their normal schedule Wednesday, as of late Tuesday afternoon.

“School officials will continue to monitor the situation, working with the city of Suffolk’s Division of Emergency Management as well as the National Weather Service,” according to school district spokeswoman Bethanne Bradshaw.

In the event of any decision to either delay or cancel school for Wednesday, parents and staff will be notified via an automated School Messenger call, starting at 5:30 a.m.

Any schedule changes will also be announced via www.spsk12.net, Facebook, Charter Cable Channel 189 and local commercial TV stations.

Parents and staff can check themselves via telephone after hours at 925-6750.

“Parents and staff can visit the school division’s website and under the ‘Parents’ tab at the top, scroll down to ‘Delays and Closings’ to find out details about how a delay impacts bus pick-up times and before- and after-school child care,” Bradshaw stated.
