Player of the Week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

 

Harper Birdsong, junior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy basketball: She continued to execute as the Lady Saints’ most valuable player on the court, producing two more strong performances that led to wins. Her final point out of a game-high 23 led to a 51-50 Friday home win over Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School, and her 28 points were key in a 45-40 Tuesday road win at Norfolk Academy.

Imani Lewis, senior for King’s Fork High School basketball: Though new to the team this year, she continued to establish herself as a key contributor this past week. She produced a game-high 22 points to go with seven assists in a 67-58 Tuesday win at Hickory High School. On Thursday, she had 10 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in a 70-35 blowout home win against Western Branch High School.

 

Michael Cornette, junior for Suffolk Christian Academy basketball: He has established himself as a reliable offensive threat in addition to being a strong defender. He helped the Knights achieve their first tournament win in school history on Jan. 3 by scoring 16 points in a 67-52 road win over TEACH of N.C. In Tuesday’s conference road win he scored 16 more and had 14 in a Thursday conference road loss.
