Safety tree gets red bulb

The Pilot Club of Suffolk’s Safety Tree now has a red bulb in place of a green one after Friday’s fatal accident on Pruden Boulevard.
Organizers had been hoping to keep the tree green all December long. The tree, which is in front of the Elks Lodge on West Constance Road, contains green bulbs to start off the month.
For every fatality caused by a traffic accident in the city in the month of December, a red bulb replaces a green one.
The aim of the tree is to help encourage safety on the roads during a month that usually sees an increase in serious accidents.
