Theresa Holliman, 92, of 1228 Lake Kennedy Drive, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Israel and Odell Scott. Mother Holliman was preceded in death by her husband, Nonnie A. Holliman; sister, Lois Roberts; brothers, Israel Scott Jr., Russell Scott, Clarence Scott; and stepchildren, Robert Thomas Newby and Dorothy Taylor.
She was educated in Southampton County Schools. She retired from Pond’s Peanut Company and domestic work after numerous years. She served on many auxiliaries at New Mt. Joy Food For Living Ministries such as Usher Ministry I and II, Mother’s Board, Sewing Circle, Nurse’s Ministry, Deaconess Ministry, Home and Foreign Ministry, Hospitality Ministry and many more.
She leaves to cherish her memory five daughters, Gladys Harris, Mary Harvey, Della Richardson (Arthur), Denise Sherrod (Bernell), all of Suffolk, and Willie Watts of Linden, N.J.; seven sons, Nonnie L. Holliman (Victoria), Herman Holliman (Ellen), of Syracuse, N.Y., James Holliman (Marlene) and Reginald Holliman (Patricia), of Suffolk, Ronald Holliman (Judy), of Massachusetts, Sylvester Holliman (Wanda), of New Jersey, and Michael Holliman (Gail), of Newport News; three sisters, Annie Mae Murry, of Portsmouth, Gloria Adams, of Alexandria, Shirley Boone, of Suffolk; one brother, Charles Scott (Rosa), of Portsmouth; brother-in-law, Arthur Holliman (Virtley); sister-in-law, Mary Scott; 48 grandchildren; 81 great-grandchildren; 26 great-great-grandchildren; grandchildren she reared, Andrew Holliman, Anthony Holliman, Brian Holliman, Yvette Holliman and Jeffery Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at noon, Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014, at New Mt. Joy Food for Living Ministries, 307 County St., Suffolk. Elder Nonie Holliman will do the eulogy, and Pastor Viola Parker will officiate. A wake will be Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. Interment will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sherrod, 652 Adkins Circle.
