Man airlifted after crash

A man was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital following a crash in the 1200 block of Portsmouth Boulevard Monday afternoon.
The wreck happened at 2:03 p.m. and involved the head-on collision of a Ford Ranger pick-up truck and a dump truck, according to a city news release.
The driver of the Ranger had to be extricated from the truck and airlifted for treatment of injuries that were considered life-threatening, according to the release. The driver of the dump truck was transported to Sentara Obici Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The preliminary investigation reveals that the pick-up was traveling westbound when it crossed into the eastbound lanes.
The roadway was closed while the accident scene was cleared.
