Three displaced in Sunday fire

Three adults were displaced Sunday in a fire at the Nansemond Square Apartments.
The fire was reported at 6:25 a.m., according to a city news release. The fire was confined to a second-floor apartment, and the lone occupant of the apartment had jumped from the second-story window prior to firefighters’ arrival. She was not injured.
Occupants of adjoining units had also evacuated. The fire, which originated in the kitchen and was ruled accidental, was called under control at 6:48 a.m.
The one adult in the unit where the fire originated, as well as two adults in an adjoining unit, were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
