Player of the Week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:
- Henry Moreno, sophomore for Nansemond River High School football: He had a sensational game on defense Friday night to help the Warriors achieve a 30-7 win over host Churchland High School. He recorded eight tackles, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and an interception that he returned 41 yards to set up more Warrior points.
- Irvin Ashburn, senior for Lakeland High School volleyball: He used an impressive, well-rounded performance to lead his team to its first victory this season, a 3-1 win over visiting Nansemond River High School on Tuesday. Showing proficiency as a hitter, a server and a defender, he finished with 13 kills, 12 aces and six blocks.
- Noah Serianni, junior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy football: He was a terror to the defense of host Virginia Episcopal School on Saturday both through the air and on the ground. He completed four passes for 90 yards and two touchdowns while also running three times for 48 yards and another score in the Saints’ 43-14 victory.
- Steven Effler, junior for Suffolk Christian Academy soccer: He proved to be a major offensive force on Thursday afternoon against visiting Alliance Christian Academy, producing a hat trick in the Knights’ 6-3 victory.
