For the second time this year, Farm Fresh is helping local children battling cancer through its “Round Up” campaign, which encourages customers to contribute to CHKD by rounding-up their grocery bill to the nearest dollar, or contributing even more.

“Farm Fresh has been an incredibly generous partner over the last 14 years, raising funds to help CHKD provide exceptional care for children,” Jim Dahling, president and chief executive officer of CHKD, said in a news release.

“We are grateful for the extraordinary support Farm Fresh is giving CHKD this year with a fall campaign to help our hospital care for the children in our region diagnosed with cancer.”

The fundraiser will take place in local Farm Fresh supermarkets Sept. 7-20. During the last 13 years, Farm Fresh has raised more than $7.5 million for the CHKD cancer program.

As the only cancer program in the region specifically designed for children, CHKD follows more than 500 childhood cancer patients from across southeastern Virginia, Virginia’s Eastern Shore and northeastern North Carolina.

Approximately 70 local children receive new diagnoses each year. CHKD’s oncologists can offer patients up-to-the-minute treatment innovations through more than 50 cancer research protocols for everything from bone cancer to brain tumors.

CHKD is the only freestanding children’s hospital in Virginia and serves the medical and surgical needs of children throughout greater Hampton Roads, the Eastern Shore of Virginia and northeastern North Carolina.

The CHKD Health System operates primary care pediatric practices, surgical practices, multi-service health centers and satellite offices throughout its service region.
