Police investigate shooting

Suffolk police are investigating a shooting that took place about 1:53 a.m. Friday.
Police were called to the 100 block of South Fifth Street, where they found the victim, Joe Bernard Saunders, 40, lying on the floor inside the residence. He was suffering from a gunshot wound, according to a city news release.
Saunders was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital following emergency treatment by Suffolk Fire and Rescue. He currently is listed in stable condition.
The investigation is ongoing, and no additional details are available at this time, according to the news release.
