Greg Edwards and Matt Waltz shared the spotlight on Saturday evening, dividing the 4CDL.com Twin 75s for the Late Model Stock Cars, the featured events of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at Langley Speedway.
Edwards claimed the pole for the first race, at 88.881 miles per hour, and led all the way for his sixth victory of the season. Waltz held down the runner-up spot throughout the caution-free event, finishing nearly half a straightaway behind the winner.
Connor Hall was third to the line, followed by Brenden “Butterbean” Queen and Tyler Ankrum.
In the nightcap, Waltz took the lead for good on lap 54 and held on for his division-leading ninth win. Edwards started on the pole and led the first nine circuits before giving way to Waltz on lap 10.
Edwards regained the lead with a perfectly executed “bump-and-run” in Turns 3 and 4 on lap 45, only to have Waltz return the favor nine laps later. All the while, Ankrum, who had moved up to third, was closing in on the lead duo.
On lap 68, Edwards tried to shoulder Waltz aside in Turn 4 and Ankrum pounced, driving past Edwards and alongside Waltz. Waltz and Ankrum went side-by-side until lap 71 when Waltz regained the clear-cut edge.
At the finish, Waltz was the winner by a car-length over Ankrum. Greg Edwards was third, while Danny Edwards Jr. and Mark Wertz rounded out the top five.
