A truck hauling spare auto parts ended up on its side in a ditch after an accident on Route 58 Monday afternoon.

Two lanes of Route 58 eastbound were closed Monday afternoon as police and rescue workers investigated and cleaned up after a crash.

The accident happened at 2:30 p.m. between the landfill and the weigh scales. It involved a dump truck and an empty flat-bed truck and ended with the large dump truck on its side in the ditch, according to a city news release.

Crews from Suffolk Fire and Rescue dammed the ditch to prevent the flow of diesel fuel, hydraulic fluid and engine oil that had spilled. A hazardous materials firm will be assisting with clean-up.
