Mary M. Owens, 83, formerly of Bute Street, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 15, 2014, while at Autumn Care Nursing Home of Suffolk. She was born on Feb. 14, 1931, to the late Annie Morris in Colerain, N.C.

Mary was educated in the North Carolina School System and was a domestic worker for the Darden and Brothers family for many years.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Mary leaves behind to cherish her memory, son, Rollie Owens Jr. of New York; daughter, Freda Mitchell, of North Carolina; brother, Clarence Morris (Janet), of North Carolina; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; devoted cousin, Johnetta Wilson, of Suffolk; and two devoted caregivers, Yvette King and Janet Parker both of Suffolk.

Ms. Owens’ visitation will take place at the funeral home on Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. A service of remembrance will take place at 2 p.m. at the chapel on Friday, and she will be entombed at Carver Memorial Cemetery Chapel.
