Lynne Wiser Stockman, D.O., a family practitioner with Bayview Physicians Services, has been recognized and honored by Hampton Roads Physician Magazine for her good deeds and volunteer service.
She was also named 2014 Medical Professional Volunteer of the Year for the Western Tidewater Free Clinic.
A practicing physician for more than 21 years, Dr. Stockman continues to give of her time and expertise in a voluntary capacity. She recently returned from a weeklong medical mission trip to Honduras, offering free care in three remote villages — her first mission to a third-world country.
She has served as church director of the Women’s Missionary Union for seven years.
Stockman also works with teenage girls at her church, teaching them to find their own heart for missions, through programs like Acteens, where students raise funds for projects; collecting items for CARE packages for college students; or toys and gifts for kids through Operation Christmas Child. The girls also collect and deliver food and donations for the community food pantry.
When their youngest daughter was diagnosed with a chromosome disorder, Dr. Stockman and her husband became involved at the national level in the Support Organization For Trisomy 18, 13 and related disorders.
In addition to her volunteer involvement, Stockman is involved with the American Osteopathic Association, the Virginia Osteopathic Medical Association, the Virginia Academy of Family Physicians, the Medical Society of Virginia and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
