Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:
- Tyler Lilley, senior for Lakeland High School baseball: He had a fantastic individual performance both defensively and offensively in Monday’s 16-0 conference tournament win against Heritage High School. On the mound, he threw a perfect game, including eight strikeouts. At the plate, he was perfect again, going 4-for-4, with two runs batted in and three runs scored.
- Kendall Webster, sophomore for Nansemond River High School soccer: She energized her team with the first goal of the conference tournament championship on Friday. Then, she bookended the game’s scoring when she headed in a goal with about five minutes remaining, topping powerful rival King’s Fork High School 3-2.
- Jeremy Woods, junior for King’s Fork High School soccer: His play at goalkeeper helped stave off a Nansemond River High School team that kept threatening in Friday’s conference tournament championship. His most clutch play came when he preserved a 1-1 tie in the second half by blocking a penalty kick, paving the way for his team’s eventual 2-1 sudden death victory in quadruple overtime.
