Accident sends one to hospital

UPDATE: Nicholas Scott Scheil, 22, remains at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of injuries that now are not considered life-threatening. He has been charged with reckless driving and driving on a suspended license.
Earlier: A single-vehicle accident Tuesday morning on eastbound Route 58 near the Godwin Boulevard ramp sent one man to the hospital.
The accident, involving a Mitsubishi Eclipse, happened at 8:37 a.m. The man was ejected from the vehicle and taken to Sentara Obici Hospital, from where he was airlifted to Nightingale to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of injuries that are believed to be life-threatening.
Preliminary investigation reveals the vehicle was traveling eastbound when the driver attempted to make a turn but continued onto the grassy median, where it struck signs and flipped several times.
The affected ramp was closed until 11:40 a.m.
