A Suffolk man is being held without bond after police investigation allegedly connected him to a highway shooting that happened more than 12 years ago.
Haywood Doron Reid is charged with attempted aggravated malicious wounding and shooting into an occupied vehicle and was being held without bond at Western Tidewater Regional Jail, according to a news release from Virginia State Police.
On Dec. 6, 2001, shortly after 11 p.m., a Norfolk city police officer, Leroy Daniels, was driving to work in his personal vehicle on Interstate 664 in Chesapeake when the driver of a passing vehicle shot his car.
The state police investigated the case at the time, but it remained unsolved. Earlier this year, Suffolk Police Detective J. Lyons developed the information that broke the case, according to the release.
