David Allen Williford, 73, of the 2000 block of South River Drive, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2014, at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital.

He was born Sept. 21, 1940, in Bertie County, N.C., to the late Garland and Ruth Williford, and grew up in Gates County, N.C. David retired, after 38 years of service, as an industrial mechanic for U.S. Gypsum Corp. He was a member of Fairview Heights Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, a sister, Dorothy Lily, and two brothers, Grady and Finley Williford, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Betty A. Williford; a daughter, Rhonda W. Posey; a son, John D. Williford Sr. and wife Kristie; two sisters, Linda Wiggins and husband Paul, and Phyllis Liverman and husband Jim; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2014 in Sturtevant Funeral Home’s Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel by the Rev. Dr. Steve Allsbrook and the Rev. Paul Martin. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
