The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy softball team only managed three hits against the visitors from The Covenant School on Friday, but NSA eighth-grader Dani Goodman made one count in the eighth inning as her team won 2-0.
With a scoreless tie in the bottom of the eighth, Lady Saints senior Macy Mears singled to right field, then stole second. Junior Madi Glynn popped up a bunt that the Lady Eagles missed — one of their three errors in the game — and Mears advanced to third.
Shortly thereafter, Goodman came up to the plate with two on and two out. The count included one ball and two strikes when she hit a walk-off two-run single to right center field.
Covenant failed to score despite having seven hits for the game. The Lady Saints only committed one error.
NSA eighth-grader Emily “EJ” Bankson (3-3) was the winning pitcher.
