An 18-year-old jazz and blues sensation will rock the house at a fundraiser this Friday for the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s Ebony Achievers program.
William “MoBetta” Ledbetter, a senior at Kecoughtan High School, said folks can expect “a little bit of everything” at the fundraiser, set for 7 p.m. at NDULGE Restaurant, 200 E. Washington St.
“I’ll play little bit of old school blues, some jazz, some popular tunes people may recognize,” said Ledbetter, whose father grew up in Suffolk and still has relatives here and who also will perform at this year’s Hampton Jazz Festival. “I just want to give them a good show and great entertainment for the evening.”
The Ebony Achievers program is a mentorship and development program for juniors and seniors that is sponsored by the sorority, said Valerie Boykin. It provides college tours and other enrichment activities for the participants.
This particular fundraiser will primarily benefit Alexus Copeland, a program participant and Lakeland High School track star.
Only about 40 to 50 people can fit in the restaurant, so it will be a cozy night out for guests, Boykin said.
“We think it’s going to be a fun activity,” she said, adding there still are tickets left for the event.
