Nansemond River High School’s softball team took an early lead on Thursday at Indian River High School and never gave it up, winning 4-1.

NR sophomore Maddie McGrath hit a solo home run, and sophomore Lauren Maddrey threw nine strikeouts to improve to 2-1 on the season.

Nansemond River (2-1, 0-0) was set to host Lakeland High School (2-1, 0-0) on Friday night.
