Suffolk police are investigating a report of child abuse after an 8-year-old boy reported to a school official on Thursday that he was beaten by his father on the previous day, city spokeswoman Diana Klink wrote in an email.
James Lamont Dillard, 36, is charged with abuse and neglect of children and cruelty and injuries to children. Injuries to the child’s back were consistent with being beaten with a leather belt and buckle, Klink wrote.
In a separate incident on Thursday, a victim told police he was robbed of cash and cellphones at an automated teller machine in the 100 block of East Washington Street. There were no injuries, and three suspects are sought. The investigation is ongoing.
