The family of Suffolk’s C. Faye Tillery, who died of cancer in 1998, has started a $500 scholarship open to Suffolk youths.

The scholarship is open to applicants from 8 to 18 years of age who volunteer in the community on a regular basis, according to a news release.

A scholarship presentation will take place at the C. Faye Tillery Cancer Awareness Day, at East Suffolk Recreation Center, 138 S. 6th St., on April 5.

Applications, which require two letters of recommendation from someone in the candidate’s community, are due by March 1.
