IWA loses close game in semifinals

Isle of Wight Academy’s JV boys team saw a turnaround season come to an end Monday night in a semifinal of the Metro Athletic Conference Tournament, bowing to Williamsburg Christian 34-33.
IWA’s three games against Williamsburg this year were decided by a total of eight points.
The Eagles advanced to the conference tournament championship Tuesday versus Atlantic Shores.
IWA finished 9-7, 8-4 in the Metro. The season was its first under new coach Craig Stallings, who was assisted by Billy Roach. In the team’s last two years, they had records of 10-8, 8-6 and 11-8, 8-8.
On Monday, the Chargers were led by Rylee Williams’ game-high 12 points. In the team’s 16 games this year, Williams averaged 14.8 points per game and finished among the conference’s top scorers.
