A fatal accident in Carrollton Thursday took the life of a 56-year-old Virginia Beach man and tangled traffic trying to get to Suffolk.

Ronald Allen Swarts died when his 2005 dump truck overturned as he was turning from Route 17 southbound onto Cedar Grove Road at 11:52 a.m. The truck had lost control, ran off the road and struck an embankment before turning on its side, according to Virginia State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya.

Swarts was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident, Anaya added.

The dump truck, owned by T.A. Sheets, a general contractor, was loaded with mud.
