Suffolk Public Schools, NSA closed Thursday

Because of icy road conditions in parts of the city and freezing temperatures, Suffolk Public Schools will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23, according to schools spokeswoman Bethanne Bradshaw.
Exams originally scheduled for Thursday will be rescheduled for Tuesday, which now becomes an early dismissal day for all students.
Exams originally scheduled for Wednesday, when students were also out, are rescheduled for Monday, which remains an early dismissal day.
When schools are closed, before- and after-school programs are closed.
Nansemond-Suffolk Academy also announced it will be closed Thursday.
In addition, the city will open on a two-hour delay for Beta personnel, according to a press release from the city.
The city of Suffolk has announced these early closings for Wednesday evening:
- The East Suffolk Recreation Center, 138 S. Sixth St., will close at 5 p.m. instead of 8 p.m.
- The North Suffolk Library, 2000 Bennetts Creek Park Road, will close at 5:30 p.m. instead of its regularly scheduled time of 8 p.m. The Morgan Memorial Library will close at its normal time of 5:30 p.m., while the Chuckatuck branch library will close at its normal time of 5 p.m.
In other closings news, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s Meet the Coaches Night has been postponed. A new date has not yet been set.
