NSA falls to Conn. school in tourney

The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Lady Saints could not continue their successful start to the KSA Events’ 2013 Holiday Girls’ Basketball tournament in Orlando, Fla. After crushing a local Florida high school on Friday, they lost 56-46 on Saturday to Hamden Hall Country Day School from Connecticut.
NSA only trailed 23-20 after the first quarter, and then both teams struggled to get points on the board in an eight-point second quarter. The Lady Hornets led 29-22 at halftime and extended it to 40-30 at the end of the third before the teams fought to a 16-16 draw in the fourth.
Hamden Hall got the bulk of its points from Rachel Plotte with 23, Alyssa Devin with 11 and Bianca Tomassini with eight.
The Lady Saints were led by Jessica Pieroni with 17 points to go with six rebounds and Harper Birdsong had 15 points, seven assists and six boards.
Kaylor Nash chipped in 10 points, six rebounds and two steals.
Nansemond-Suffolk (5-2) finishes out its stint in Florida with a game on Monday.
