Thomas Scott

Thomas Scott, 82, of 1037 Pitchkettle Road, Suffolk, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at Kindred Transitional Rehabilitation Center. He was a native of Nansemond County and the son of the late John Scott and Alverta Scott. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Elnora Barnes, Lee Scott, Mattie McKoy, Odessa Brown, Ajack Scott, Ruth Bowser, Mary Brooks and Clinton Scott.

He retired from Suffolk Public Schools (Suffolk High School) as a custodian after 30 years. He continued his employment as custodian at Central Fidelity Bank, Bank of Suffolk, Virginia National Bank, and also had a lawn and garden business. He was a member of St. Phillip Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he was the former chairman of the Deacon Ministry and Superintendent of Sunday School for 55 years. Mr. Scott was a member of Twine Memorial Early Sunrise Prayer Band of Portsmouth.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Minnie Scott; four daughters, Barbara J. Goodwin (Marshall C.), Paige S. Wiggins, both of Suffolk, Miriam H. Gregory (Gordon L.), of Lakewood Ranch, Fla., and Thomascenie Scott, of Suffolk; five sons, James Thomas Scott (Evelyn), Russell L. Scott, Angelo Scott (Sherry), Al Scott and John Scott (Arlene), all of Suffolk; 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at St. Phillip Pentecostal Holiness Church officiated by Bishop Marshall C. Goodwin Sr. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. A wake will be held on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Crocker Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
