A Suffolk man died in a wreck in Carrollton Sunday morning.
Humberto Gutierrez-Fuentevilla, 56, died at Riverside Regional Hospital in Newport News after the wreck at the intersection of Carrollton Boulevard and Sugar Hill Road at 11:23 a.m.
According to a press release from Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller, a 2005 Dodge pickup truck was driving westbound on Sugar Hill Road when it pulled into the path of a 1997 Plymouth van that was northbound on Carrollton Boulevard.
The pickup truck then struck a utility pole.
The driver of the pickup truck, James E. Turner IV, 31, of Carrollton, was wearing a seatbelt and was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The driver of the van, Mayra Lopez-Contreras, 33, of Suffolk, and her 4-year-old son, Anthony S. Lopez, were transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Gutierrez-Fuentevilla and another van passenger, Gloria Perez, 39, were transported to Riverside for treatment of serious injuries. Perez was still being treated Sunday afternoon.
Turner has been charged with reckless driving, but the crash remains under investigation. Alcohol has been ruled out as a factor.
The road was closed until about 5 p.m.
