Lady Cavs reach IC18 finals

The top-seeded Lakeland High School field hockey team defeated Denbigh High School 11-0 on Wednesday at Christopher Newport University, advancing easily to the Ironclad Conference tournament championship.
Six different players scored, led by senior forwards Summer Parker and Kiersten King, with four and three goals, respectively.
Senior forward/midfielder Alexis Albright and her twin sister, midfielder Jamee Albright, each scored once and had two assists apiece. Senior midfielder Megan Smith and sophomore midfielder Shannon Leonard both scored once, as well.
Senior forward Jessie Cox, senior back Kasey Smith, senior midfielder Kristen Vick and sophomore Chaunsa Saunders each had one assist.
It will be an all-Suffolk conference championship game tonight at Christopher Newport University as the Lady Cavaliers (17-0) will play the winner of Thursday’s game between King’s Fork High School (10-5) and Nansemond River High School (10-5). The championship will start at 5:15 p.m.
